Take a minute and think about your grandma’s best dessert, yea, that’s exactly how yummy Brendenbeck’s strawberry shortcake is!
Brendenbeck’s bakery has got to be the oldest bakery in Philadelphia, as they’ve been around since the 1800’s. Their specialty is, you guessed it, cake, significantly wedding cakes!
Given the fact that they’ve been perfecting their yummy recipes for over a century, it’s no surprise that they are top ten in Philadelphia. Over the years, they have been on TLC as well as the Food Network. Equally important they are The Knots’ Best of Weddings, Hall Of Fame recipients. Trust me, it’s a coveted position. In this case their fresh strawberry shortcake should be as well.
Do you recall in my last blog, I mentioned my obsession with fresh strawberries, I meant that. For this reason, I didn’t hesitate in choosing the strawberry flavor out of all twelve cake choices. Furthermore the strawberries and cream perfectly placed between both cake layers was enticing, not to mention the huge strawberry on top. While the sweet bakery assistant was wrapping up my strawberry shortcake, I had a petit four and ordered a margarita cupcake. My raspberry petit four was flavorful but a bit too sweet for me. However, I did like the margarita cupcake with the exception of the sugar crystals. The flavor of the lime wasn’t overpowering and the cake was really moist and light.
Finally, the best part came, the taste test! You know how they say ‘you eat with your eyes first”? I first, second and third that. The taste of soft fluffy, light cake, paired with strawberry slices and cream, was exceptional. It tasted like it looked.

To wrap up, I would say that Brendenbeck’s has lived up to their reputation of being one of the best bakeries, provided that it only took me trying three of their desserts to be convinced.
Where did you eat the best strawberry shortcake?
Have a fantabulous day, Love Atalee.
