Donut Ace; Antigua’s First Donut Shop

Donut Ace; Antigua’s First Donut Shop

My trip to Antigua was absolutely fabulous, right down to the food I ate, and man did I eat. Although I must admit that my body had to readjust to the weather and heat at first. So around day five {5} or so my appetite came back in full effect , to put it differently, I was my usual hungry self lol. Naturally, I was craving desserts and had to check out Donut Ace; Antigua’s first donut shop!

Yes, to emphasize, Donut Ace is Antigua’s one and only donut shop. Owner Akeem Edwards, a young pastry chef  came up with the awesome concept after making a few batches for his girlfriend and friends. Donut Ace, the sweet mistake according to chef Akeem, became official in 2016, after the store front was open.

Donut Ace has a around twenty-six {26} different donuts, from the classics like chocolate glaze to the out of the box flavors like maple bacon glaze and banana bread! Akeem along with the Donut Ace team makes all the donuts fresh daily. Their top sellers are red velvet, cookies ‘n’ cream and blueberry lemon.

I tried the the 3 for $13 E.C box, and chose cookies ‘n’ cream, pineapple filling  and the special of the day maple bacon. They were all yummy especially the pineapple.

Only a few steps over from Donut Ace is Cafe Iced Antigua’s original Asian inspired bubble tea shop. Cafe Iced offers guests a selection of smoothies, bubble tea, slashes, frappes and shakes,  in over forty {40} flavors.

Most naturally I chose to have bubble tea as it’s a favorite at Cafe Iced. I chose the passion fruit with mango topping. Now, it’s important to realize that here in the United States, bubble tea comes with tapioca balls. However at Cafe Iced, they decided to put an island twist on it and use fruit balls instead. Not only was my bubble tea refreshing, but the pleasant surprise of the mango balls popping in your mouth made it that much better.

Given these points, should you find yourself in Antigua, definitely check them out, it’ll be worth the trip. I know during my next trip to Antigua, both Donut Ace and Cafe Iced will be on my to-do list.

Where’s your favorite dessert shop outside of the U.S?
