Tapas Lunch at Sheer Rocks in Antigua

‘”Sheer Rocks will have you in a swoon over the shimmering sea views and the flavorful, thoughtfully executed food”- Frommers. Swoon we did over both the view and the tapas lunch at Sheer Rocks in Antigua. Sheer Rocks is one of Antigua’s finest restaurants and was most recently voted 2018’s best restaurant in the  Caribbean, shortly after my visit there. An award truly deserved.

In the first place, when you first arrive at the Cocobay Resort, the beauty of the landscape surrounded by the ocean is enough to make you smile. Going through the lobby warm smiles and “good day, how are you?” filled the air. A true Caribbean welcome indeed. The walk through Cocobay was just as great, as the resort overlooks Antigua’s pristine white sand beaches. Which contrast so well against the green coconut trees and well manicured lawn. Although I appreciated the beauty of Cocobay, nothing beats the view of the Atlantic ocean from Sheer Rocks. Especially at sunset, breathtaking would be an understatement in my book.

Without delay, let’s talk about the tapas menu, dessert and cocktails at Sheer Rocks. Sheer Rocks’ bar which is a tiki hut was fully stocked and any cocktails you could dream up the bartenders could make. I of course went with their best selling cocktail, the Sugar Cane Mojito. It was very refreshing, flavorful not too sweet and certainly what I needed on a hot Antigua summer day, plus the actual sugarcane  garnish was a nice touch. I probably had three of them lol. My cousin and friend who tagged along with me enjoyed gin and tonic and Bailey’s on the rocks.

Our tapas lunch at Sheer Rocks was just as impressive. As recommended by one of the awesome managers, we chose the Tempura Artichoke with Lemon Ricotta Cheese, Truffle Macaroni Cheese, West Indian Chicken Wings with Pickled Jalapeño and of course the Chocolate Souffle with Vanilla Ice Cream.

Tempura Artichoke with Lemon Ricotta Cheese, Truffle Macaroni Cheese and West Indian Chicken Wings with Pickled Jalapeño

The artichoke although fried was very light and paired well with the lemon ricotta. I must have had two pieces and wanted more, but had to share lol. Our spicy chicken had a bit of tang to it which helped with the kick that the jalapeños has, which I didn’t mind. They were tender and fell off the bone with every bite, totally worth getting your sinuses going. Omg as a kid I really loved macaroni cheese and while living in NY, I would frequent a popular spot in the city at 2am, as they had the best. Honey, they don’t hold a flame to Sheer Rocks’ Truffle Macaroni Cheese! I really needed an entire bowl of it. It was melt in your mouth, gooey, yummy, cheesy goodness.

Chocolate Souffle with Vanilla Ice Cream

Now about that best selling Chocolate Souffle, it was exactly what you’d expect from a soufflé. You already know how I feel about chocolate. Nevertheless I had to try it so that I may relay it to you. Surprisingly I liked it! I seem to like chocolate desserts that doesn’t have a strong cocoa flavor. The soufflé was both warm and soft on the inside with a dense outer layer. Just as you’d expect it to be. It was flavorful as well, but I didn’t have it all, I actually shared that lol. The vanilla ice cream on the other hand I didn’t share. I mean can you blame me though? It had vanilla beans and was so creamy and smooth. Totally yummilicious!

“Poised artfully on the edge of a remarkable sunset facing bluff and terraced in a Cliffside, protruding over the rocks of Ffryes Bay.  This series of bougainvillea-draped pavilions, four-poster daybeds and plunge pool delivers a seductive backdrop in creating one of the most beautiful and must-visit dining spots and experiences in Antigua.” I agree wholeheartedly.

Definitely go for the view, but stay for the food at Sheer Rocks. I can’t wait to go back! To emphasize a bit more, it was one of those moments that I really felt like I was truly on vacation.
