Traveling to Jamaica and Grand Cayman

Traveling to Jamaica and Grand Cayman

Hi honey!  I still can’t believe I took my first cruise ever for my birthday last month; traveling to Jamaica and Grand Cayman was nothing short of amazing!

It was surreal being home in Jamaica for the first time in a decade and it was bittersweet (only because I had to leave).

Bae and I are both Aries…yes it’s a bit weird sharing your birthday month with your spouse, but we make it work. Last Fall we decided to do something different to celebrate our special days; a cruise to the Caribbean.

After a couple weeks of research on CheapCruises.com, which offers a few specials, including payment plans, we went with the Carnival Sensation, as it met our needs as first timers.

With five months to go, we had plenty of time to get everything done on time. Most of all, making our last payment in February, as that was the deadline. Which is a reasonable amount of time.

Finally, it’s April and it’s vacation time! We live in Philadelphia, and our port of departure for the cruise is in beautiful Miami, therefore we had to take a short flight down. Our flight landed in Fort Lauderdale and we took a Lyft to the Port of Miami. Unfortunately we missed our check in time and had to take our luggage to our room. This was a hassle, as we had to take ALL our stuff up elevators, ramps, escalators and what seemed like a never ending hallway.

Alas we made it to our room and at this point we need drinks and food, in that order. We made our way back to the main floor, ready to start celebrating, only to be informed that everything is closed for an hour, as we have to attend a safety class.

It seems like two hours has past and we’re both just “hangry” and restless, then just like that it was over! We immediately headed to the main deck to eat, drink and “turn up”. Afterwards we explored the ship for a bit and then went to our room to turn all the way down, as exhaustion had finally kicked in.

Our second day on board the ship was great, we played a few games, ate a lot, had a few shots, and relaxed.
It’s finally my birthday and as our ship made its way to Jamaica’s port in Ocho Rios, I felt emotional. It was such a beauty to see, most of all I get to be there on my birthday! After we got off our ship, we met up with my family and headed to Blue Hole for some island adventures.
To be honest, we didn’t get a chance to do many things, as we were only there for six hours. Nevertheless we had a great time diving off cliffs, eating at Pleasure Cove beach and enjoying the gorgeous weather. On our way back to the port, we stopped for some much needed Jamaican KFC; the best in the world.
While we were back on our cruise ship and leaving Jamaica, I decided to check out the hair salon. After all  it’s still my bday and one must be on fleek. My hair looked fabulous, but the weight of all those activities were beginning to creep in. Due to that, we only had enough energy to attend dinner. Since it’s my birthday the awesome Carnival crew celebrated with cake, yum!
Grand Cayman was our chance to just ‘live’ on the beach, and we took full advantage of that.
On our way to the Seven Miles Beach, we took the scenic route,(jk) the entire island has nothing but scenic routes!
Our drive to the beach was fairly short, and the minute we got there, we rented our beach chairs and kicked into vacation mode. Seven Miles beach was so beautiful, you could see your feet in the water, most noteworthy, the sun was hot. Maybe a bit too hot, because I ended up getting sun burnt. We enjoyed the water, and had some yummy conch fritters and of course a couple of tropical drinks. Sadly we had to head back to the port a little too soon, as we only had six hours to have fun. Grand Cayman city was quaint and the residents were really nice and welcoming. We had a chance to enjoy some special rum cake, and do a bit of shopping, before boarding our ship.
In conclusion, the experience of travel by ship was different, as it was like being in a hotel on water (lol).
We both had a fantabulous time and already told our families to start making plans for the next one!
